Ladies. It’s that time. Time for the serious countdown to Dinah Shore 2008. I say serious because there were two or three countdowns before this one, but this is the one. The one that means that I have a little over a month to get it and my body together for the largest gathering of lesbians in the world. I am officially on my Dinah Shore Weekend diet, lol.
That’s right ladies, Dinah Shore can be for you too, lol. A weekend traditionally when thousands of lesbian women, mostly white, descend upon Palm Springs, California for weekend of fun in the sun, is being remixed…in color.
For the first time that I can remember, there are going to be record events for Black lesbians in Palm Springs. From Lucy and Gail to Michelle and Roz, we’re going to represent this year…and it’s about time!
This will mark my second time venturing down to Palm Springs for Dinah Shore. My first time was last year and I had a great time, except for driving home at 3 in the a.m., lol. But not this year. I am parking my caboose in Palm Springs from April 2nd through the 6th so that I can be around for all of the festivities. Keep an eye on my Google Calendar of events for all of the goings on.
Lucy and Gail
Lucy and Gail, who are known for holding it down for the sistas in Palm Springs, have announced their 2008 line up for Dinah Shore Weekend with Evelyn Champagne King headlining their Friday Night Dance Party.
Lucy and Gail have lots planned for us colored girls this year including the opening night party on Thursday the 3rd featuring singer Gennie Jackson, a cultural marketplace at their host hotel the new Ramada Resort and a reception on Friday the 4th before Evelyn Champagne King takes the stage. Medusa, Shurlavision, and Lillie Carol Russ are scheduled to perform. Sexy DJ Claudette is deejaying the pool party on Saturday the 5th along with a performance by Skim and then later that evening there’s a barbeque. On Sunday the 6th there’s a jazz brunch.
On Friday afternoon, I’ll be showing the Black LGBT Presidential Forum DVD and leading a discussion around the 2008 Presidential Election, politics in general, and the Black lesbian vote.
Lucy and Gail are proud to sponsor the 2008 Dinah Shore (in Color) Hike with me and a special screening of my documentary “The Incredibly True Adventures of Sistas of the Canyon,” a candid take on the ties that bind a group of African-American and Latina women in Los Angeles.
The film screening will take place on Saturday, April 5th at 1 p.m. and be followed by a Q&A session.
Hikers can meet me at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 6th, (8 a.m. if you want to take advantage of the free continental breakfast!) at the Ramada Resort located 2000 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs, California. There will be free transportation to the Palm Springs Indian trails where we’ll hike until about 10:30 a.m. before heading back to the hotel. This event is completely free! All you have to do is show up! Bring water, wear comfortable walking shoes, and lightweight clothing as Palm Springs is sure to be hot.

Michelle and Roz…Soulful Touch Entertainment
Our girls Michelle and Roz are putting the final Soulful Touches on their plans for Dinah Shore Weekend. Their events will be featured in my next Dinah Shore Weekend update. I’ll be sure to let you know the details, which I am sure are going to be off the chain. You know how they do.
