Alright, so this just in…drumroll puhlease!
On Saturday, August 23, 2009, yours truly has been selected as one of this year’s “51 SHeroes” to be honored at a special awards ceremony.
Founded and hosted and by CA Senator Curren Price whose recent campaign I worked on, this event pays tribute to women who have made extraordinary contributions to their professions and their communities. Past award winners have included women of great distinction, leadership and devotion to their community; women leaders who are innovators of unique and programs and services, as well as role models for younger women and girls.
Nominated were made by local elected officials, business and community leaders and this year’s award recipients were selected based on their demonstrated leadership, volunteerism and commitment to their community.
Well, I’ll be damned, lol.
Now check this out, if you’re in Los Angeles and you want to attend to either congratulate or boo me, it’s all good.
The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2009 in the ballroom of the Radisson Los Angeles Westside Hotel, 6161 West Centinela Ave, Culver City, CA, 90230. The program will begin at 2:30 PM and conclude at approximately 5:00 PM.; cocktail attire is suggested. Tickets may be purchased at $40.00 each.
Like I said, you can come and say congratulations or sit in the front row in your best cocktail attire and protest my award, but you will pay the 40 bucks to get in so it’s all good, lol.
I keep telling folks I could give a (fill-in-the-blank) about being recognized for my work from some of these gay groups out there. It’s my community that I care about and when what I do and say is no longer relevant to them, then and only then will it be time to call it quits.
Oh and yes–I already have a date…my grandma 🙂
