In the Meantime Men’s Group held their annual King Day Celebration on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Black lesbian owned Cabrini’s Jazz Alley in Los Angeles. Inspired by the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Bayard Rustin, the annual celebration has become a highlight for the local Black LGBT community. This year’s keynote speaker was inspirational speaker and coach Parker and the King-Rustin Award went to Isaiah McGee for his life’s work to empower Black same-gender loving men. McGee is the founder of A Conscious Life Enterprises and Director of the Agape Gay and Lesbian Ministries. The event was hosted by In the Meantime’s executive director Jeffrey King and there were some 60 people in attendance at the celebration.
In the Meantime Men’s Group was created to provide a safe and supportive environment for men of African descent and can be found on the web at www.inthemeantimemen.org.
