We’re not against the police. We’re not against the police department, but we are against police who commit misconduct (and those who help cover it up).

Last week U.S. Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch blew into town to take a look at how police use technology to prevent crimes and interact with residents–a subject we know all too well about.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that a rumor escalated to ginormic proportions via social media that the Los Angeles Police Department killed an unarmed Black man.  Turns out that wasn’t the case at all and it was just your garden variety– albeit tragic nonetheless–civilian on civilian homicide.  But back to social media and technology.

That rumor was everywhere.  From Chicago to Los Angeles and beyond.  All the while, not a damn peep from the LAPD to let folks know they actually didn’t kill someone this time.

When they finally did have something to say it was too little too late.

That was Thursday, June 9.  However, on Saturday, June 11 when I tweeted out a witnesses video from an officer-involved-killing the night before–whereas they were sleep on the 9th, they were woke on 11th.

Not soon after I sent out that tweet, LAPD put their social media and technology skills on full display in this internal email.

Subject: Social Media Assessment: OSB OIS – 77th Div Update #2 ( 6-11-2016)

Good morning,

As of 1130 hours:

I have searched social media and found that @Jasmyne has tweeted out, “We had an officer involved shooting in ‪#‎SouthLA‬ involving the #LAPD last night. Here’s one witness’s video –https://www.facebook.com/Mr.Roccy/posts/10206409098854500” with 8 retweets and 2 likes. Among the retweets were @LAPeoplesMedia and @PMbeers.

Pharaoh Roc Harris (https://www.facebook.com/Mr.Roccy?fref=nf) was the one who posted the video of the yesterday’s OIS. The post on Facebook was shared 70 shares with 23 anti police comments. The video does not show the actual incident, but the guy in the video said he saw the incident. People around him said, “They shot him for no reason.”

Can’t defend their own department against rumors they killed someone when they actually didn’t (this time) but they do have time to troll each and every one of my tweets.  Hmmm.  Like I said before Chief Beck, your obsession with me is unhealthy.

Two examples of the LAPD and social media and how they “interact” with residents.  I’m sure the Attorney General didn’t hear about that though.

But back to U.S. Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch’s visit.

Seems that Lynch’s visit put Beck in an uncomfortable position that was noticed by most in the room.

Apparently, Lynch’s tour of the LAPD included a stop at the Department’s Real-Time Analysis and Critical Response (RACR) Division.

Guess who works in RACR as a watch commander?  Yep, none other than George “It Wasn’t Me” Hoopes.  Hoopes is infamous in the Department for dating Beck’s daughter and then being sent for a Board of Rights disciplinary hearing that the Chief is said to have had cancelled.  Something to do with indecent photos of his daughter was the chit chat at the time.

Anyway, Hoopes and Beck were in the same room at the same time during Lynch’s visit and I’m told it was very awkward for those who know the situation– which was probably everyone in the room except for the mayor and Lynch.

I’m told Hoopes and Beck stayed opposite of each other the whole time.

Oh the side eyes I bet they were giving each other!  Someone really needs to send me that pic.  Ha!
