"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice, but I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people," Coretta Scott King. – Reuters, March 31, 1998.
Today our nation mourns the lost of another courageous leader.
Coretta Scott King was more than Dr. Martin Luther King’s wife, she was her own her person in her own right.
Black or non-black, gay or straight, Mrs. King dedicated her life to love, justice equality, and global human rights and for that I am truly grateful.
Today is a sad day for the world, but we can honor her memory and her husbands dream by using their lives as an example and by making the promise of freedom, equality, and opportunity real for all people.
