The nominations for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 2007 Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning here in Los Angeles.
I was pleased to see that Chiwetel Ejiofor was nominated for his role as “Lola” in the comedy Kinky Boots.
Forest Whitaker walked away with a much deserved nomination for his role as the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland.”
Of no surprise here, “Dreamgirls,” which isn’t even in theatres yet, walked away with nominations for Best Comedy/Musical in addition to honors for Beyonce Knowles as Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Jennifer Hudson for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, and Eddie Murphy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
Will Smith has garnered a nomination for his performance in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
Turning to television, ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is up for several awards including Best Television Series (Drama).
The Golden Globes are always a good indicator as to who will be nominated for an Academy Award. I am pulling for Forest Whitaker because his performance by far was the best I’ve seen in theatres this year.
