Drunk Drivers, Home Invasions, and Drive Bys–Oh My!

87th and McKinley

A Los Angeles police officer shot a home-invasion robbery suspect in South Los Angeles, a sergeant said Sunday.

The sergeant, Mitzi Grasso, said she had no further details as she was headed to the scene.

A neighbor told a video journalist three suspects burst into a home in the 8700 block of McKinley Place around 10 p.m. Sunday, and one family member slipped out and ran to the neighbor’s house to call police.

There were reports the wounded suspect was not breathing, the video journalist said.

The videographer said a second suspect was in custody, and some residences may have been evacuated as police searched for the third.

Inglewood

A man fatally shot in Inglewood in an apparent gang attack was identified Sunday as a 42-year-old Buena Park resident.

Jose Celeridad was shot at or near 629 W. Olive St. about 11:15 a.m. Saturday, according to police and coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie.
Celeridad was shot several times in his chest and back and declared dead at a hospital, Inglewood police Lt. Steve Overly said.

He had just gotten out of his vehicle when a gray or black Ford pickup truck with two men inside stopped and the driver shot him before fleeing, he
said.

Police said the killing appeared to be gang-related without elaborating. Anyone with more information about the slaying was asked to call police
at (310) 412-5246.

Vernon/Figureoa

An 18-year-old gang member shot in the face and the buttocks in South Los Angeles was hospitalized today, but police said he was
not talking.

The wounded man, whose name was withheld, was found shot at Vernon Avenue and Figueroa Street about 2 a.m., said Los Angeles police Sgt. Mike Richardson of the Newton Station.

Paramedics took the wounded man to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was said to have stable vital signs, he said. One bullet hit him in a cheek on his face, and another hit him in a butt cheek.

So far, the victim has been unable to tell police where the shooting occurred or who shot him, Richardson said.

Crenshaw/Hyde Park

A man and a woman were fatally injured in a collision caused by a driver fleeing law enforcement in Hyde Park.

The suspect driver was injured and under police guard at a hospital this morning, a desk officer with the LAPD’s South Traffic Division said.

The pursuit started about 11:30 p.m. Friday when an officer spotted a reckless driver and ended three minutes later with a collision at Crenshaw Boulevard and Florence Avenue, Lt. Peter Casey of the LAPD’s 77th Street Station said.

A man in a sport utility vehicle or pickup truck died at the scene, a news video cameraman reported from the scene. The other vehicle was a white
car.

A critically injured woman pulled from the same vehicle as the man who died was declared dead at hospital early today, a coroner’s investigator said.

The pursuit began on westbound Florence Avenue, Sgt. Cy Feliciano of the South Traffic Division said.

The couple who died “were just random people driving north on Crenshaw, and they were struck by the fleeing vehicle,” said a South Traffic desk
officer, who would not give his name.
