The HRC is expected to announce the addition of Jonathan Capehart (pictured above) of the Washington Post and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association as a co-moderator for its August 9 Democratic Presidential LGBT Forum to be televised on LOGO.
Capehart is an editorial writer for The Post, specializing in national politics and environmental issues. He joined the Post’s editorial board in 2007. Prior to joining The Post, he was a member of the New York Daily News’ editorial board from 1993 to 2000. He then became National Affairs Columnist for Bloomberg News from 2000 to 2001, and left to work as a policy adviser to Republican Michael Bloomberg in his successful campaign for Mayor of New York City. He returned to the Daily News as deputy editor of the editorial page from 2002 to 2005. Capehart and the Daily News editorial board won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing for their editorial series on the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
There are also whisperings of Bloomberg News’ Margaret Carlson being added as a co-moderator as well.
The candidates will appear in the order that they confirmed they would participate.
That order being:
Sen. Barack Obama
Former Sen. John Edwards
Sen. Christopher Dodd
Congressmember Dennis Kucinich
Sen. Mike Gravel
Gov. Bill Richardson
Sen. Hillary Clinton
So now, for the obvious question: what took Clinton so long to confirm? Wasn’t she the same person that went pandering over to the HRC saying much of nothing while getting accolades for supporting gays? I’ll file that one under Strange Behavior.
And for the record, we are not that easy to impress. Adding one Black to the panel doesn’t make everything better. Now tell me why again you didn’t reach out Keith Boykin who has much more of a following and name recognition within Black SGL America?
