Grammy-Award Winning Artist & Producer Tony Rich Signs With Hidden Beach Recordings
Best R&B Album Artist & Producer To Release Album in September 2008
Hidden Beach Recordings announces the signing of eclectic and electric singer & songwriter, Tony Rich. “Tony Rich fits the Hidden Beach Family’s quest to partner with the best of the best artists, whom are able to condense their emotions into the recorded form. Tony is also a talented photographer, fine painter and poet. He has developed his artistic expression through several mediums and we intend to utilize all of these talents to tell his story which will resonate with both his loyal fans and many new ones alike,” says Hidden Beach Recordings President, Steve McKeever. “This project should certainly answer the question: Where is Tony Rich?” The Detroit-born crooner made his debut in early 1996 with his album, WORDS. The hit single spawned from that album, “Nobody Knows” peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and climbed to number one in the UK. This propelled the single and album to go platinum and in 1997, Rich won a Grammy Award for the Best R&B Album. He is also an accomplished songwriter who has penned hits for Boys II Men, Johnny Gill, Elton John, CeCe Winans, TLC and Toni Braxton.
Tony has been a longstanding resident of Atlanta and has released two independent albums that spawned critically praise but failed to match the commercial success of his debut. He has experienced the trials and tribulations of an artist wanting to get his music out to the world. “There first must be a test before you can have a testimony,” affirms Rich. “I’ve had some ups and downs but my desire and ability to create art has always been my gift. It feels good to finally find a home at Hidden Beach. They have really supported my vision and will allow me to continue to share the unique sound of my musical contributions.”
Tony Rich’s fifth album, EXIST is due out on September 23rd. The first single “Part the Waves” is a rhythmic soliloquy reflecting the before and after of first meeting then being with that special someone. In support of the forthcoming album, he will be doing a 12-city promotional tour from Monday, July 21st to Friday, August 1st; dates and cities are below:
Katy Perry Debuts New Single “Hot N Cold”
Capitol Records “It Girl” KATY PERRY’s debut is turning into the best new artist breakthrough story of 2008. Perry’s fans — online and in sweaty, exuberant Warped Tour crowds – have been several tracks deep on the album for months, but the major mass media is catching up as fast as it can…and the fever has caught on worldwide.
As her “I Kissed A Girl” logs its seventh week atop the Billboard Hot 100 and seals its status as the undisputed song of the summer in America, major Top 40 radio stations across the country, including the national Top 40 format leader Z-100 WHTZ/New York, have jumped on adding her new single, the wild electronic romp “Hot N Cold.” Blender Magazine calls the track a “spunky, climate-controlled kiss-off,” and Entertainment Weekly agrees, “It’s damn fun.” A video is scheduled for a Los Angeles shoot late in August, with official release to radio early in September. Perry will make the premiere live television performance of “Hot N Cold” on NBC’s Today show outdoor concert series.
Since the release of “I Kissed a Girl” and ONE OF THE BOYS, which debuted at No. 9 on Billboard’s Top 200 album sales chart in America, the album continues to bullet in the Top 15. As Billboard notes, “I Kissed A Girl” was the 1,000 No. 1 single of the rock era, and has had the longest run at No. 1 since Flo Rida’s “Low,” early in the year. Not since Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” has a song charted on all four major radio formats – Top 40, Hot AC, Modern Rock and Rhythmic. It ties a four-year record for a female debut single with Ciara, and at seven weeks, now ties Capitol’s label record for weeks at No. 1 – sharing that honored spot with The Beatles’ “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”
Nominated for Best Female Video and Best New Artist in the MTV Video Music Awards 2008, “I Kissed a Girl,” directed by Kinga Burza, has topped the TRL chart since June 24th, just twelve days after Perry’s live premiere, and the video is now on view in every major music video outlet worldwide.
As “I Kissed A Girl” continues to sell in excess of 150,000 downloads weekly in the US and more than 2 million (double platinum) in total, Perry made her chart debut at No. 1 in the UK. The single has already topped the Australian, Canadian and Swedish singles charts, and is certified platinum in Australia and double platinum in Canada. It is only the second single in Australian history to hold the No. 1 spot solely on digital sales. ONE OF THE BOYS is gold in Canada, and the worldwide album release date is mid-September, with earlier releases in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Japan.
“I Kissed A Girl,” a No. 1 US iTunes download, has already hit No. 1 in iTunes international stores in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. It is charting Top 10 in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy and Norway.
“I Kissed A Girl” is also on track to equal its extraordinary U.S radio airplay globally, highlighted by top-20 positions in Australia (No. 1), Brazil, Canada (No. 1), Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK.
“I Kissed A Girl,” co-written with Perry by Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, Max Martin and Cathy Dennis, was produced by Dr. Luke (Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson). “Hot N Cold” was written by Perry, Gottwald and Martin, and produced by Dr. Luke.
Perry was also joined on ONE OF THE BOYS by such noted producers and collaborators as Greg Wells (Mika, Natasha Bedingfield), Glen Ballard (No Doubt, Alanis Morrisette), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Max Martin (Leona Lewis, Robyn), Sam Hollander & Dave Katz (Gym Class Heroes, Boys Like Girls) and Butch Walker (Pink, The Donnas).

Tricky Is Back With Knowle West Boy
Knowle West Boy is the album that sums up everything that Tricky has accomplished since his 1995 Maxinquaye debut. “Knowle West is where I was born,” says Tricky. “It’s a’ white ghetto. I didn’t know what racism was until I left. My family’s mixed race, so we don’t see color. I grew up on a council estate more as a white kid, but with Jamaican roots. But all of us there had something in common…we were poor. I realized that I’d never written anything for these kind of people.”
From the sardonic bar-room blues of “Puppy Toy” to the haunting quasi-classicism of “Joseph”; from the twisted Specials-worshipping punk of “Council Estate” to the bereft torchery of “Past Mistake”; from the Roxy Music’s The Bogus Man-at-the-dancehall art-stomp of “Bacative” to the poignant autobiographical tale of teen pregnancy that is “School Gates”, Knowle West Boy sees our misunderstood hero reaching into the post-punk, Two-Tone, reggae, hip hop and pure pop he grew up adoring, twisting it all into surreal Tricky shapes using his astonishingly accomplished band and a host of great undiscovered singers, and ending up with the most varied and accessible set of his career. When things get too dark he brings it back to the light with the ebullient pop-rock of “C’mon Baby.” When things get too relaxed he taunts the world for its cruelty and apathy with the Middle-Eastern hip hop textures of “Coalition.” Underpinning it all is a theme of rediscovery… the American exile rediscovering his love of dear old Blighty; the veteran rediscovering the joy of making music; the experienced player rediscovering the struggle of being Knowle West’s very own Tricky Kid, the weird but defiant teen outsider who knew that with enough lust for life you could become a superstar. Knowle West Boy Tricky, over music that still sounds like no-one else on earth.

Anané Shines Bright With Ananésworld
In the increasingly merciless music industry of the 21st century, Anané shines bright as an example of what a love for life, dedication to music and hard work can bring worldwide success. Chosen by Billboard Magazine as one of the “2008 Faces to Watch” columnists Kerri Mason raves, “Combining earthiness with glamour and roots-deep house music knowledge with pop wise diversity, Anané could be the first up-from-the-nightclub superstar since Madonna.” This is the multi-talented singer-songwriter debut album on the US’s pioneering Tommy Boy, and with it the world is set to discover the heartfelt, soulful and eclectic musical stylings of one of music’s shining lights.
Having co-produced several tracks on ananésworld alongside Grammy Award-winning DJ-Producer Louie Vega, Anané has also teamed up with some of today’s most innovative and exciting songwriters and artists in what has been her introduction to production. The album features dance, reggae, rock, r&b soul, world and Caribbean influences. Anané co-wrote nine of the songs with Grammy Award Winner Lisa Fischer, Duane Harden, Lem Springsteen, Kalu Montiero and Djim Djob, while other collaborators include Masters at Work, Mr. V, Louie “Lou” Gorbea, Bob Sinclar and Da Groove Doctors. Fellow Elements Of Life musicians Luisito Quintero (percussion), Mike Ciro (guitar) Jerard Snell (drums) and Gene Perez (bass) providing a fluid and powerful rhythm section, making ananésworld a labor of love that will further elevate Anané’s star, reinforcing her reputation as an artist of ability and promise and – perhaps most importantly – emphatically demonstrating her lifelong commitment to her native roots.
ananésworld promises to redefine Anané in the eyes of her peers and those of her fans worldwide. A highly personal and spiritual reflection of her own life journey, Anané describes her album best, “It’s the essence of who I am,” she says. “These are my hopes, my aspirations and my dreams. It’s my global expression; soundtracks to moments in my life.”
