Okay, so it’s finally here, AT THE BEACH Los Angeles Black Pride.
For those of you not in the know, it’s an annual celebration of Black same-gender loving folks and their friends who get together to celebrate all of who they are.
While the parties and events jumped off on Tuesday, tonight Pride officially starts up with its Opening Reception at 7 p.m. at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel (5855 West Century Blvd.). On Saturday, head to Malibu for the annual Beach Party Unity Celebration appropriately entitled “The Black Out.” The party starts at sunrise and ends at sunset. Featured performers this year include SoulThought recording artist Donnie and Black lesbian rapper Feloni. For all of the details on how to get there click here. After the beach party, the historic California African American Museum will play host to this year’s infamous after party beginning at 10 p.m. and going until 4 a.m. On Sunday, join here! Networks as they present ATB’s Black LGBT Film Festival taking place from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel (5855 West Century Blvd.). Films to be shown include “How Do I Look”, a documentary that focuses on the ballroom scene, “Don’t Go,” a new lesbian series from filmmaker Amber Sharp, and episodes 1, 2, an 3 of here! Networks “DL Chronicles” series. Cast and crew from “Don’t Go” and the “DL Chronicles” are expected to be in attendance.
Dozens of volunteers have dedicated six months of their lives to put on this event and I just want to take a moment to give them all kudos for their commitment and effort to make sure the Los Angeles continues to celebrate Black same-gender loving pride.
Have fun this weekend, but most all be safe. I’ll see you AT THE BEACH!
