The 38th NAACP Image Awards nominations were announced during a press conference yesterday in Beverly Hills. Vanessa Williams, Isaiah Washington, Chandra Wilson, Shaun Robinson and DB Woodside joined NAACP President and CEO, NAACP Image Awards Committee Chairman Clayola Brown and Image Awards Executive Producer Vicangelo Bulluck to announce this year’s nominees.

While there wasn’t much on the openly gay front this year in the way of nominees, indie film "Dirty Laundry" was nominated in the Best Independent Film Category.

Queen Latifah was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for "Last Holiday."

My man Isaiah Washington was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, and rightfully so.  The man is talented and can’t nobody hold him down.  You go boy!  Isaiah was also tapped as the Celebrity Host for the 2008 Pan African Film and Arts Festival.

Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series noms went to CCH Pounder for "The Shield."  Yeah CCH!!!

The “L Word’s” Jennifer Beals was also nominated though I can’t figure out why?

Outstanding New Artist nom went to fav Corinne Bailey Rae.  While Donnie didn’t get a nomination (why?), John Legend did for Outstanding Male Artist.

And stand down.  There was none of the foolishness from years back when R. “I’m A Pedophile” Kelly was nominated.  Thank God!

Outstanding Female Artist nominations went to Corinne Bailey Rae, India.Arie, and Mary J. Blige.
Outstanding Duo or Group – Outkast…and you know this!

The NAACP Image Awards honors projects and individuals that promote diversity in the arts in television, recording, literature and motion pictures. The theme of this year’s show is "Youth Create Change." The show will air live on Friday, March 2nd (8:00 / 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on FOX.

Now what I want to know is whether or not the Image Awards have to seek the blessing of the Writers Guild of America.  Hey if the Golden Globes were canceled…
