Stonewall Democrats Select San Diego to Host Convention

LGBT Democrats from around the Country Will Meet August 25-28

Today, the National Stonewall Democrats (NSD) announced that the city of San Diego, California will host the organization’s 2005 national convention. NSD has accepted the bid of the San Diego Democratic Club, a chapter of the National Stonewall Democrats, to host the gathering August 25-28.

The 2005 Stonewall Democrats National Convention will offer electoral trainings, dynamic speakers and an opportunity to share grassroots strategies that have proven successful for Stonewall chapters. 2005 will also mark the first time that the convention, usually held every two years, will be held in an off election year.

Program Highlights include:

Friday, August 26

“There was a tremendous enthusiasm among our members to gather in 2005,” said Stern. “Stonewall was able to increase the Democratic vote everywhere we focused our efforts last year. San Diego will offer us the opportunity to work together to lay the foundation for nationally coordinated efforts to elect fair-minded Democrats in 2006 and 2008.”

Founded in 1975, the San Diego Democratic Club was formed to represent the interests of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Democrats. In 1998, the club worked with Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) to form the National Stonewall Democrats. Since that time, the San Diego Democratic Club has grown into one of the largest Stonewall chapters in the nation, and remains the strongest Democratic club in San Diego.

The 2005 Stonewall Democrats National Convention will be held August 25-28 at the Holiday Inn On-The-Bay in San Diego. Those interested may register for the convention by visiting .

National Stonewall Democrats is the only national organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Democrats, with more than 90 local chapters across the nation. NSD is committed to working through the Democratic Party to advance the rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
