New Photos – 17th Annual Pan African Film & Arts Festival

So one of the reason’s I’ve been low key is that I am swamped in work.  Besides my regular political work, and writing deadlines, in February I handle the public relations for the Pan African Film & Arts Festival, which I will tell you is no easy feat.  But when you have the opportunity to meet living legends like Marla Gibbs, who received this year’s PAFF Lifetime Achievement Award, and tell Ja’Net Dubois once again how fierce she is, and confess to Jimmy Jean Louis that if you weren’t a lesbian, that you would have replaced Monique in Phat Girlz and been his real Jasmyne, well, it’s all good, lol.  Plus it’s my favorite time of year in Los Angeles because for 12 days, Africa is front and center…as it should be.

Thank you Shon, Hiltron, and Ian for the photos! Thank you Althea for the updo, Kenny for the dresses, and now that it’s stopped raining I am finally going to wear them, lol and to Terry and Bisi for always being so supportive.  Um, by the way, Kenny and Terry, I want carbon copies of both of the dresses you wore!

Thank you Amy, AMG, Roxanne, and Pam for making sure that I didn’t go crazy. xoxoxo.

Wow, Jane’t Dubois and Marla Gibbs are looking great, looks like a fun event!

You’re quite welcome Jas, thanks for giving me the opportunity to work with you on such an educational event. Being able to mett, greet and speak to legends like Ja’net Dubois (even though we shared cocktails at Parks headquarters election night) it was still good to hang with her again. Celebs like Blair Underwood, The cast of Relative Strangers, Ms Marla Gibbs, Alfred Woodard just to name a few, were so warm and friendly, it made you proud to be a part of the African Heritage. If you ever need me again, I’m here for you, cause girl, I couldn’t do what you do and not be on prozak LOL…

  • Thanks JC,

It was great of you to post these photos. You put us there in spirit, with the images.

    I love it!

    Keep keeping it real,
    Salima
