Damn.  That’s all I could say as I shook my head in disbelief of the news that an unarmed man was shot to death by police 50 times in New York on the morning of his wedding.  I mean what else can you say.  Add to that he was 23 with two children and your heart just aches.

According to news reports, At 4 a.m. on Saturday, Noveber 25, Sean Bell, 23, was shot and killed in a hail of over 50 police bullets, witnesses and the authorities said. The murder happened outside the Kalua Cabaret, a strip club where Bell’s bachelor party was held. Bell was to marry his highschool sweetheart, Nicole Paultre, 22, that same day.

Two other men who were with Bell were also injured. Joseph Guzman, 31, was shot at least 11 times, and Trent Benefield, 23, who was hit three times. Both men were later handcuffed to their hospital beds despite the fact none of the three men were armed.

Reverend Al Sharpton has called attention to this incident by leading a protest on Sunday in New York.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has promised a "fair and thorough" investigation.

And as expected the community wants answers and we so should we all.

However, I am not sure there is an explanation for 50 shots at unarmed men.

At least Sean Bell can rest easy knowing that Al Sharpton is on the case and now all of America knows, unlike lesser known Michael Sandy who also died an unnecessary death in New York but because he was gay his death passed by without any cry from our Black leaders.

Think about that…
