While I am not in habit of posting events that aren’t in Los Angeles, I thought this was particularly interesting.  Too bad it’s taking place a few days before I get back to Washington, but for my folks already there…

In collaboration with the Greater U Street Festival, the U Street Theatre Foundation – Lincoln Theatre, will present a two – day tribute to the Harlem Renaissance on September 17th and 18th. Coined Black Broadway by singer and Washingtonian Pearl Bailey, the Lincoln Theatre stage will present programs featuring film, music and dance. Tributes and guest appearances by Ruby Dee, Isaiah Washington, Jasmine Guy, Blair Underwood, André DeShields, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.

The historic Lincoln Theatre is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) performing arts venue located in the vibrant U Street district and managed by the U Street Theatre Foundation. Originally a vaudeville theatre and movie house open in the 1920s, the “Jewel on U” has reopened as DC’s National Theatre and a cultural crossroads where culturally diverse and stimulating entertainment programming is offered

Tickets available at Ticketmaster outlets or the Lincoln Theatre box office 10am-6pm.
