Obj1514geo1872pg4p3CBS has announced that after much criticism about not being ethnically diverse, that its Survivor: Cook Islands will be grouped by race, with the 20 competitors divided into four tribes consisting of whites, Blacks, Asians and Hispanics.

"Our original idea was simply to have the most ethnically diverse group of people on TV,” commented host Jeff Probst on Yahoo News! “It wasn’t until we got to casting and started noticing this theme of ethnic pride that we started thinking, ‘Wow, if culture is still playing such a big part in these people’s lives, that’s our idea. Let’s divide them based on ethnicity.

CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler told Entertainment Weekly that while she was hesitant to give the go-ahead on the "risky idea," she finally relented, saying it was the logical next step in "a show that explores social politics."

So long integration and bring on the racial tension. Wow! Networks must really be scrambling for viewers to take this route.  What’s next, gay vs. straight? Top vs. bottom?

Now what race do you think is going to come out on top?  And who are the other non represented races supposed to identify with?

Survivor: Cook Islands kicks off September 14 on CBS.
