Just the mere allegation from a white woman of her being violated in some sexual way is still enough to bring this country to its knees–and for there to be consequences.
The silence from L.A.’s Democratic community on the death of Gemmel Moore and Ed Buck is no better than Black cis folk looking the other way because he was a gay sex worker and the white gays doing the same because he was Black.
Only a white man can have a dead Black body in his house and explain it away to the police and they say okay–case closed.
While I expect Republicans to overlook Blacks until it’s politically convenient to pit us against one another, I do not expect the party of coalition building, solidarity and ‘we’re stronger together’ to do the same.

As an African-American Democrat, I share the core values of my political party. That is why I am a Democrat. Like me, most African-American Democrats do not want to see the mass deportation of undocumented citizens and families broken up. That said, we would be completely within our right to give the side eye to political leaders who are falling over themselves to get on the ‘sanctuary state’ PR bandwagon.
