I don’t know about you, but my Thanksgiving was pretty decent for a person who doesn’t call herself celebrating Thanksgiving to begin with.
It started off with Wednesday night’s Ultra Wave 80s vs 90s Reunion. All I can is, off the chain. I had a ball. We were cabbage patching and Roger Rabbiting our asses off all night long. Can’t wait for the next one.
I got a big surprise on Thanksgiving night, my girl Choklate was in town shooting her video for “Grown Folks” and ended up meeting me at the crib at 2 a.m. after the club. That was great! Being able to sit around and talk until we both just fell out plumb exhausted. Trading clothes, one of our favorite pastimes. It’s great when you have a girlfriend who is the same size as you in shoes and clothes and has a wicked sense of style.
Thanksgiving morning met up with Michael Richardson, Mitrice’s father and went to Mothers in Action Thanksgiving feeding at Ward Villa for a couple of hours.
Michael volunteered his time with me this Thanksgiving with Mothers in Action feeding the needy. Since his daughter isn’t home this Thanksgiving he felt the need to get out in the community and make a difference in hopes that his efforts would bring someone joy today. He also had the opportunity to meet with Senator Curren Price, L.A. Councilmembers Bernard Parks Sr. and Jan Perry, NAACP’s Willis Edwards, and Judge Ephraim Mablean ALL who committed their support in helping him get a Federal Investigation Launched and supporting his efforts in finding Mitrice. Dope!
I did the obligatory family get together over my cousin’s house. That was cool. And like a fat kid who loves cake, I tried my best but I did nibble just a bit. Didn’t get full though and didn’t overeat. I had just enough to satisfy my curiosity.
Picked up the homegirl from the airport whose crashing at my place too for the holidays.
I followed that with my annual tradition of attending my BFF Nevin’s very Jamaican and very gay Thanksgiving dinner where once again I reigned supreme at the spades table kicking ass. I think I drank too much—but hey, I didn’t EAT too much and that’s what I was worried about.
I was so exhausted that I just fell out when I got home but I did manage to get my ass up and go hiking this morning for two hours.
On the way to the hike, I guess someone had a different idea of Black Friday and decided to hold up the check cashing place on Crenshaw and Pico because LAPD had shotguns drawn and were handling business. I didn’t stick around to see the outcome.
Now I’m back at the house and I feel like getting back into the bed…who knows I just might.
Needless to say, no Black Friday madness for this sista.
