More than an estimated 50% of African-Americans nationwide are officially obese, in Los Angeles County more than half the county’s adults are overweight and county health statistics are showing rising levels of diabetes, hypertension and heart disease related to obesity among Blacks. Nowhere is this more prevalent than among children who are oftentimes following the lead of their parents.
